Our story
In 2013, Sardaformaggi celebrated half a century of activity: fifty years of experience and tradition that have seen our five-star cheese become a staple on tables around the world.
The company was founded in 1963 as a de facto partnership during a time of severe crisis for Sardinia’s dairy industry, which particularly affected the production of Pecorino Romano, a classic Sardinian cheese.
These difficulties prompted Nino, Pietro, Salvatore, and their cousin Costantino to seek new products. It was then that the founders of Sardaformaggi decided to experiment with innovative processing techniques.
This led to the creation of the first soft cheese, tender and sweet, ever produced in Sardinia, where such products were entirely unknown at the time.
Following the commercial success of the product, just two years after starting the business, a depot was opened in Tuscany. Initially intended for direct sales, it now serves as a packaging facility, ensuring rapid and widespread distribution of products throughout Italy and abroad.
This dual essence, with production in Sardinia and packaging/distribution in Tuscany, will forever be one of Sardaformaggi’s distinguishing features and key success factors.
The establishment in Tuscany has also gradually contributed to the company’s entry into the commercial network of large-scale distribution and later into organized large-scale distribution, which quickly became its main market.
The growth and spread of large-scale distribution have simultaneously served as a springboard for Sardaformaggi, which has followed the development of large-scale distribution from the very beginning, growing in parallel.
To meet the needs of large-scale distribution, the company has had to embrace high standards of quality, hygiene, and internal organization, progressively raising its standards to achieve the excellence it continues to strive for today.
After half a century of experience, the small dairy of the early days has become a significant dairy industry, proud to present its range of pecorinos, ricottas, and pasta filata cheeses that bring the esteemed Made in Italy name to tables around the world.
The company’s mission is to expand its customer base by continually entering new markets, especially international ones. Among the markets already served are Germany, England, Greece, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, the Middle East, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, and Australia.
